***The Casserole  Ministry  is ready to go back into action.  Several of you have volunteered to provide meals when there is a need and you are available.    A  couple  of  you  have graciously agreed  to  be  callers to arrange for meals.   If  you are going through a difficult time of some kind that could be made easier temporarily by receiving some meals, please contact Laurie in the church office to let her know your name, phone number, and the type of need.  She will contact the designated caller on the Casserole Ministry to help set up meals to make your life easier for a bit.   Also, if you would like to be added to the list of people willing to provide an occasional meal or to take a turn being the caller, let Karen Genson know at 843-2482.

Women’s Fall Bible Study - Thiswill begin Thursday, September 8 at 10:00 am. We will continue to meet in Fellowship Hall. Our

study for the fall is The Twelve Disciples, a 10 week Life Guide Study, by Douglas Connelly. The goal of this study is to focus

on each man and how each one was changed because of his association with Jesus. When Jesus sent these men into the world

with the good news of God’s grace and forgiveness, they spoke with the authority of Jesus himself. It was the writings of the

apostles and their close associates that laid the foundation of the church. We can expect to grow as disciples as we study how Jesus made disciples, and we can expect to hear a new call in our lives to follow Christ with a whole heart. Books will be available at our first meeting. For more information, you may call Lynne Gohn at 843-4746. Sign up in the church office.

***We are currently out of prayer shawls  and we look forward to some beautiful  new shawls coming in soon. Many needs are out there, and people realize what a blessing they are to those who are going through a tough time. So all you knitters...keep

nitting! Prayer shawls and yarn are now available on the second Sunday of the month in the narthex. For more information

about the Prayer Shawl Ministry, you may contact Lynne Gohn or Ramona Myers.

***Hospitality,  INC  Season  Eight  will  offer shelter for  homeless adults  from  October 30  to  April 30. Bethany Lutheran

Church at 1101 South Madison once again has opened up their facility for those months.  Our church has signed up for two

nights a month: the third Tuesday and the third Wednesday.  A signup sheet will be in the narthex beginning October 16 for

volunteers to bring a gallon of 2% milk, a side dish, or a dessert.  All food must be prepared at home because Bethany does

not have a licensed kitchen.  Janice Wolff and Laura Garcia will again coordinate the dinners.  Laura has graciously offered to

bring the entree for all 12 dinners.  Also needed are volunteers to make a breakfast dish at home and bring it to Bethany

Church between 6:30 and 6:40 a.m. and then help serve the guests. Thank you so much for your consideration.

***Update on the items you can collect and turn in to benefit others:

  Metal tabs off of beverage cans, soups, etc.

United Methodist Community House in Grand Rapids continues to benefit from them.  There is another group that we turn

them in to process them, but UMCH then receives the proceeds which they use to purchase everyday operating supplies,

such as wipes.

  Boxtops for Education

Be vigilant and find these little tiny guys to trim, save and turn in.  We send half of what we collect to Henderson Settlement

in Kentucky and the other half we divide evenly and give to all of the elementary schools represented by children in our ele-

mentary Sunday School classes.  They are very appreciative to receive them.

  Returnable bottles and cans

Please continue to bring those in for Legacy to use in their fund raising for mission trips!  (take the tabs off and turn them in first, though!)

  Labels for Education

Campbells has discontinued this program, so if you still have some at home, they can be thrown away.  If you are unsure, turn them in and we can sort through them.

***Interested in becoming a member of our Church? Pastor Dennis offers membership classes for those who wish to join the church. Please contact him at 843-8340 or email him at:

***If you or a family member are in the hospital, please let the church office know (843-8340), or call Pastor Dennis if it’s an emergency after hours (425-4386). The hospital does not call to tell us.

***In case of emergency where a pastor is needed, please

call the church office at 843-8340 if it’s between 9 am and 4

pm  weekdays.  If  it’s  after  hours  or  on  the  weekend,  call Rev. Jack Conklin of Scottville UMC (231-920-2908).

Want to help local kids in need? - Did you know that Mason/Oceana County DHHS has only 10 licensed foster homes? And in recent months, they've had an all-time high number of children placed in out-of-home care. When children have to be placed out of the county, they not only have the trauma of being separated from their parents; they are now losing their friends, school, church, extended family, teachers, coaches, and so on; plus there are increased transportation difficulties related to visits with parents.

If you are interested in being a foster parent, mentor, or even just a volunteer at a respite care event, please call the church

office at 843-8340, and Laurie will give you Ms. Janice Ruedisale’s (Mason/Oceana  County  Department  of  Health  and  Human  Services) contact information. Please prayerfully consider this important ministry.

Salvation Army Food Pantry - Please remember to bring non-perishable items for the Salvation Army Food Pantry: Cans of baked beans, soups, fruits and vegetables; boxes of macaroni and cheese, cereal, boxed meals; packages of rice, noodles, pasta and beans; peanut butter and jelly, powdered milk, and any other non-perishable items. Drop off in the narthex. Thank you so much.

New Baby Items Needed - Church Women United (CWU) are collecting newborn baby items for the West Shore Pregnancy Center.  Items needed are small size disposable diapers, sleepers and receiving blankets, onesies, washcloths, baby towels, and tiny sweaters to name a few. A bin will be in the church entryway for these items.

Reel to Real - Jan 22 at 12:15 pm

Nursing Home Worship Services - Jan 22. We will lead Nursing  Home  Worship  Services  on Sunday, January 22. Services are at 3:00 pm at Ludington Woods and

3:45 pm at Oakview Medical Care Facility. As usual, we would like as many of you folks as possible to attend these services to visit with residents and help with the singing.

Legacy Youth Soup Fundraiser - Jan 29 in the morning. The Legacy youth will offer a soup fundraiser Sunday morning, January 29. The fundraiser helps pay for youth activities. If you’d like takeout, the youth would appreciate it if you brought your own container.

Volunteer Opportunities

Please call the Church office to see if any volunteer opportunities are available.

Church Hostess and Wedding Custodian needed - Are you looking for an occasional job at church that is fun and rewarding? Now we need a new Church Hostess and a Wedding Custodian! The Church Hostess and Wedding Cus-todian each receive $50 for each wedding. We average three or four church weddings a year. For more information, please call the church office for more information. If anyone is interested, please call the church office.

Set up Fellowship Hall - Once again we need some first service attendees to set up coffee, punch and goodies in Fellowship Hall prior to 9:00 am. We need this help for the first and fourth Sundays each month. If you are willing to help one of these Sundays, please call the church office for more information.

Videographers needed by the sound/video crew - Our long history of providing audio recordings of Sunday Services has been enhanced to include video. Experienced or not, we need you full time or to fill in. If you are ready to serve your church, you could take in worship from a new vantage point. Please join us. For more information or to volunteer, please call the church office for more information.

Church Greeters Needed - If you are willing to extend a warm hand and a friendly smile to a member of the congregation or a visitor to our church, the church would be interested in your help for a substitute or relief greeter for the second service on Sunday mornings. For more information or if you are interested in being a part of this, please call the church office.

The Christian Education Department needs you!

**We need an individual or couple to teach the middle school Sunday School class, which meets from 10:00 to 11:00 am beginning September 13.

**We also need someone to help with one of the youth groups each Sunday night., beginning September 13. The middle school youth group meets from 4:00 to 5:30 pm, and the high school youth group meets from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. You would only need to help with one of the groups, so that means we need two people.

**All of these positions could be filled on a rotational basis so that one person would not need to commit to every Sunday. Please contact the church office if you are interested in helping to nurture our youth as they grow in Christian faith.

Flower Ministry Help Needed - Are you interested in being part of the Flower Ministry? We need you! Please contact Vi DeMeester or the church office.

When the church office will be closed, dates will appear here.
